Reynier Leyva Novo

Novo Anniversary Collection

PORTLAND, Ore.– Monday, Sept 10, 2012 – The Best Art Gallery in Portland is pleased to present the work of one of Cuba’s most prominent rising artists, Reynier Leyva Novo. The Novo Anniversary Collection is a series of posters and t-shirts that reflects on political propaganda art in the context of the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.

His exhibition Los Olores de Guerra (Scents of War) was chosen as the only Cuban selection for the prestigious 54th Venice Biennial. Los Olores de Guerra consists of a series of perfumes concocted from natural flora at the sites where Cuban independence heroes were killed in the late nineteenth century.

Reynier Leyva Novo (http://novo-designs.com/index.htm) graduated from the José Antonio Díaz Peláez Experimental Art Center in 1998, the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in 2003, and was the Chair of Behavior Art directed by Tania Bruguera in 2007; from 2004 to 2008 he studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (all Havana, Cuba).
